An Adventurer...
'Wow look outside' Anadi said... The sea was moving this way and that, full of wild horses, and the trees were waving...
'I wonder if it will be okay to swim?' He queried... 'If we stay close to the edge in our Lagoon, near the steps, I expect we'll be okay' I said...
Last night we had wandered up the hill to find a different place to eat, and we came to a restaurant called Bancinu...
We sat down and I glanced around 'I feel like we're on a boat'...
We asked the owner about his restaurant, and he told us the name was of a big cruise liner that had sunk on its way from Malta to Gozo in the 1950's...
So we were on an underwater ship!
'The divers like it' he finished....
History under the water...
A journey stopped short, people who never arrived, sunk beneath the waves... The resonance of them there still as we carry on living here, eating in a restaurant that honours the memory of their lost lives....
Anadi and chatted over dinner..
'I reckon the point of life in the western world is missed' I said, 'I feel if everyone started preparing for death from the very beginning, then we would all live very differently...I mean be aware in every moment that we won't be here, and we won't be us, and so if we let go of our life now, we can truly be free to live it...'
'It's why we met' Anadi responded 'because we think the same way...'
I laughed, 'The Tibetan book of living and dying' was my bedside read!
'Yes' Anadi responded, 'the Tibetan way would not recognise the western way... Achievement and success is not rated; self awareness and an egoless state is their orientation... If success and achievement arise from this place, it's more about making sure they do not get attached to it, than becoming identified with it...'
Wednesday morning...
We let ourselves out of our apartment with a view to running up the hill and in a circle to Hondoq bay, swimming in our lagoon, and then back along the cliff top path...
As we were about to set off, we bumped into Tony, clambering into his truck, and he cautioned us not to swim on this side of the island today, 'very dangerous' he said...
'There's our answer then!' I said 'we better heed his words...'
And so we ran our loop and stood on the top, watching in awe, the crashing waves; 'I've never seen Gozo like this' Anadi said....
When we returned Tony was hanging his swimming trunks out to dry, he had driven to the other side of the island to swim 'Ramla is like a mill pond' he said...
He pointed out Comino and said 'I think you would like walking around there'... '
How big is it?' I asked 'about a mile in length'
'And how far across from Hondoq'
About a mile too, he replied...
'We could swim there' I turned to Anadi
Tony laughed... 'She is keen....
She is an adventurer...'
